  • Began learning HTML and designing my first web site in the Summer of 1996. I created a site for my Chemistry Club at Sanderson High School.
  • Started a Web Site Club (cawebclub.com) at Cary Academy and began teaching web site design in 1997.
  • Founded the Summer Technology Institute for teachers in 1999.
  • Won the 2002 Internet Educator of the Year Award from Classroom Connect for my my chemistry site (allatoms.com)

Summer Technology Programs
Summer 2003  Director of the Summer Technology Institute, Cary Academy, Cary, NC

  • Directed the Summer Technology Course, a grant-supported program free to public school teachers. The program seeks to empower participants by allowing them to use a variety of technologies to become active web publishers. Training involves the use of the internet and intranets, using web browsers and search engines, HTML coding, the use of HTML editors, acquiring digital images with digital cameras and scanners, image editing, web site design, and FTP publishing of web pages.
  • Taught a technology course that is tuition-based to serve independent school teachers and public school teachers from outside North Carolina.
  • The public school program received grants from Progress Energy, GlaxoSmithKline, and the Wake Education Partnership totaling $40,000.
  • The program served 119 public school teachers, staff, and administration from 11 different school districts in North Carolina with 101 at the introductory level and 18 returning for intermediate training. The tuition-based program served 7 teachers from around the country.
  • The three courses together served 126 teachers with a staff of 18 and a total budget of $44,450.

Summer 2002  Director of the Summer Technology Institute, Cary Academy, Cary, NC

  • Directed the Summer Technology Course, a grant-supported program free to public school teachers.
  • Taught a technology course that is tuition-based to serve independent school teachers and public school teachers from outside North Carolina.

  • The three courses together served 134 teachers with a staff of 18 and a total budget of $49,950.

  • Directed the Summer Technology Course, a grant-supported program free to public school teachers. Initiated and taught a new intermediate level course for teachers returning for a second summer to continue their training.

  • The public school program received grants from CP&L, GlaxoSmithKline, and the Wake Education Partnership totaling $38,000.
  • The program served 126 public school teachers, staff, and administration from 13 different school districts in North Carolina with 111 at the introductory level and 15 returning for intermediate training. The tuition-based program served 7 teachers from around the country.
  • The three courses together served 133 teachers with a staff of 18 and a total budget of $44,615.
  • Brought the growing number of summer technology courses under the umbrella name of "The Summer Technology Institute at Cary Academy".
