Web Site Design & ConstructionAfter an initial consultation to understand the scope
of your project, we provide a formal estimate of the costs involved. We require a 50% down payment of the
estimated cost in order to initiate work on a project. Most projects will fall in the range of $850
- 2,500. This phase of the project involves consultation, professional
advice, designing a layout, graphic design, html coding, javascript
programming, testing and de-bugging, setting up the files on a server,
client testing, and modifications based on client input. Web Site Hosting & Domain Servicing PackagesWe offer the two packages outlined below. Our full package includes advice on the selection of a domain name, researching domain availability, purchasing the domain, keeping the domain properly registered on an annual basis, hosting your web site on our secure server, providing e-mail services for your domain, and providing extensive visitor statistics. If you use any of our EZUpdate database products than you will have to host with us so that we can set up and maintain the database. As part of our hosting services, you will have access to complete web statistics that includes all "hit" data, identifies the operating system and screen resolution that your visitors are using, the keywords they used to find you, and much more. You will also get your own mailbox (POP3) and email addresses that correspond with your domain name. We can set up your mail to forward to an existing address so you don't have to change anything about the way you receive your e-mail. We can even set up a "catch-all" forward that will allow all mail sent to your domain (anything@smithconstruction.com) to get forwarded to you. So if they misspell the first part of your address, the message will still get to you. In the summer of 2003, we decided to commit ourselves to a higher level of service. We bought a brand new Dell server, purchased and installed our own software to run it, and then "co-located" our server with the best data center we could find. This situation gives us the most control over the operation and our server only hosts our clients. Unfortunately, this also required a significant cash investment to create a situation that would be the best for our clients. The data center we chose to locate our server is right here in Raleigh. In the summer of 2004, we upgraded to a new, faster Dell server and we purchased a new external backup hard drive. Bandwidth: Due to rising traffic on the server (and rising expenses), we have begun implementing a bandwidth limit and bandwidth overage fees. The annual fee for hosting services will cover the first 2 gigabytes of traffic on the server. Overage fees will be charged at $15 per gigabyte. Bandwidth usage varies from month to month and is difficult to predict so we are adopting a system that we feel is most fair to our clients. When we get ready to bill you for an upcoming year of hosting services, we will look back at the statistics for the previous year and charge your overage fees based on the actual traffic that you received each month. For example, if you used 3.4 Gb in the month of June then we will bill you an overage fee of $15 x 1.4 Gb. What this means is that we will be paying bandwidth overage fees on our server up front and then recover them from you once we have accurate information about your use of the server. EZUpdate Web ToolsThe setup fee includes the creation of a customized database for your application and a customized, password-protected web control panel to allow you to interact with your database and web site. The annual fee covers occasional client requests to add more customized features to the database and control panel as well as the ongoing maintenance and use of these services on the server. These services will allow you to update your site at any time and gives you the control you need to have a current, professional web site.

Page Ads, etc.: PaymentAnnual hosting fees must be paid in full. On invoiced work, we require a 50% deposit to begin the project with the remaining 50% due upon satisfactory completion. We currently accept credit cards through PayPal, direct bank account transfers through PayPal, and traditional checks. One of our future projects is the planning and construction of our own on-line payment system. For now, PayPal offers a quick, convenient method of payment.
