Web Site Design & Construction

If you are creating your first web site for your organization or wish to overhaul your existing site, we can design & construct a site to meet your needs. We can work with an existing logo and color scheme or we can create a marketing identity for you. Go to our clients page to see examples of our work.

Domain Servicing

If you are going to have an effective web presence, you will need an internet address. Your domain will be the most identifying part of your web marketing efforts. We research domain availability, acquire the domain for you, and keep it properly registered. We will advise you if multiple domains make sense for your business and will protect your presence in the market. Multiple domains can be "parked" to point visitors to the same web site.

Web Site Hosting & E-mail

Once we create the files that are your web site, the files will need to "live" on a computer that will provide public access to those files. A server is a computer that will allow your clients to view your files and interact with you. This computer will "host" your files and "serve" them to your clients. We will provide hosting for your site for a reasonable annual fee. We have our own Dell server which hosts only our clients. The server is housed at the state of the art Data Center operated by Hosted Solutions. If you use any of our EZUpdate database products then you will have to host with us so that we can set up and maintain the database. As part of our hosting services, you will have access to complete web statistics that includes all "hit" data, which operating system and screen resolution your visitors are using, and much more. You will also get your own mailbox(es) that corresponds with your domain name. We can set up your mail to forward to an existing address so you don't have to change anything about the way you receive your e-mail. We can even set up a "catch-all" forward that will allow all mail sent to your domain (anything@smithconstruction.com) to get forwarded to you. So if your customers misspell the first part of your address, the message will still get to you.

Our server has dual hard drives and uses a RAID system. When data is written to one hard drive, it automatically copied or "mirrored" to the other. This protects us in the case of a hard drive failure because the other drive would still have the data. We also do nightly backups of the data which are stored separately on an external hard drive. Monthly backups are performed which copy the data to a computer outside of the data center.

Our server is using Red Hat Linux with CPanel.

Bandwidth: Due to rising traffic on the server (and rising expenses), we have begun implementing a bandwidth limit and bandwidth overage fees. The annual fee for hosting services will cover the first 2 gigabytes of traffic on the server. Overage fees will be charged at $15 per gigabyte. Bandwidth usage varies from month to month and is difficult to predict so we are adopting a system that we feel is most fair to our clients. When we get ready to bill you for an upcoming year of hosting services, we will look back at the statistics for the previous year and charge your overage fees based on the actual traffic that you received each month. For example, if you used 3.4 Gb in the month of June then we will bill you an overage fee of $15 x 1.4 Gb. What this means is that we will be paying bandwidth overage fees on our server up front and then recover them from you once we have accurate information about your use of the server.

Our EZUpdate web tools involve customized databases that are integrated with your web site to allow you to interact with your web site. This allows you to update your site at any time and gives you the control you need to have an effective web site.
